For its operations in Tanzania in March 2015, fastjet carried a total of 56,808 passengers and achieved a load factor of 70%, an increase of 66% in the number of passengers carried and a 3 percentage point increase in the load factor, compared with the same month last year.
Punctuality for the month remained high with 91% of flights arriving on time – earlier than or within 15 minutes of schedule. This was despite increased aircraft utilisation with additional flights added to the network.
fastjet CEO Ed Winter commented, “I am delighted to see our passenger numbers continue to rise year on year by 66%. This clearly demonstrates the growth that fastjet has achieved as our low-cost model continues to stimulate the Tanzanian air travel market. I am also pleased with the continued growth of our network and aircraft utilisation with the launch of two new routes in March. Linking Kilimanjaro and Mwanza provides a reliable and affordable service for these commercially important areas, whilst serving Entebbe from Kilimanjaro provides direct tourist and business opportunities between Tanzania and Uganda.”
In the 12 months ending 31 March 2015, 661,909 passengers were carried by fastjet’s Tanzania operation, up 72% from the 385,532 passengers carried in the 12 months ending 31 March 2014.
