fastjet marks record passenger numbers during August 2015

fastjet Tanzania carried a total of 76,741 passengers during August 2015, a record number which the carrier says is due in part to new routes to Malawi introduced in July 2015 and increased frequency on some existing routes.Passenger numbers for August 2015 showed a 17.2% increase from 65,496 in August the previous year. The load factor for August was 75%, a four percentage point decrease from 79% across the respective periods.Ed Winter, CEO of fastjet, remarked, “We are delighted to report record monthly passenger numbers for the second consecutive month, further affirming the growing appetite for low-cost aviation across southern and eastern Africa. August is traditionally a strong month but with a capacity increase of 23% versus August 2014, we are delighted to maintain such strong demand.”Elsewhere, although lower than in July this year due to unexpected airfield closures in Dar es Salaam for military training, punctuality for August 2015 remained strong, with 88% of flights arriving on time. Finally, passengers carried during the rolling 12 months to August 2015 increased by 55.7% year-over-year from 487,745 to 759,254.
