fastjet Tanzania carried a total of 65,118 passengers in May 2015 in comparison to 42,977 during May 2014, which is an increase of 52%.
Rolling passenger numbers for the last twelve months see an even more impressive increase of 76% from 407,908 to the end of May 2014 to 716,350 in the 12 months to 31 May 2015.
Ed Winter, CEO of fastjet, stated, “Once again, fastjet Tanzania has achieved considerable passenger growth year-on-year. This is particularly pleasing as we approach the busy summer period during which we have added more capacity on certain routes to meet expected demand.”
In terms of load factor, the airline's additional capacity has resulted in a decrease of one percentage point from 71% in May 2014 to 70% for the same month this year.
fastjet's summer schedule, which runs from the end of July to mid-September, further increases utilisation of the carrier’s fleet. It sees additional flights on the Dar es Salaam–Mwanza route as well as an extra weekly flight linking Dar es Salaam with both Lusaka and Harare. fastjet is also preparing for the delivery of its fourth aircraft, with Winter confirming discussions are under way with potential suppliers to deliver its fifth.
