VLM Airlines has ceased operations with all aircraft grounded.
The home page of the airline’s website simply states: “We are sorry to inform you that VLM Airlines NV has filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday 22nd June 2016. All flights are cancelled with immediate effect.”
The airline was bought from Air France by INTRO Group in June 2014 and merged in the then CityJet Group. While CityJet went on to be bought by its original founder Pat Byrne, VLM was the subject of a management buy-out led by Arthur White.
With the airline’s finances already in trouble at the end of 2015, new CEO Hamish Davidson was brought in at the beginning of this year in an attempt to put the carrier back on track. Sadly that has not proved feasible.
