Extra E190 for BA CityFlyer as BA offers busiest LCY summer

British Airways is planning its busiest summer ever from London City Airport next year with its operating subsidiary there, BA CityFlyer, adding another Embraer 190 to its fleet.The aircraft will operate 14 extra frequencies a week to popular sun spots over the summer and will be used to upgauge the three-times-a-day Düsseldorf service, which is currently operated by a turboprop aircraft. Using the E190 will add over 50% more seats on flights between the two airports.With the introduction of the new aircraft, British Airways will also be creating up to 30 additional crew and support jobs at the Docklands airport.During the peak summer season, from June to September, there will be three additional flights a week to Nice, two to Faro, Florence, Ibiza and Angers and one extra flight a week to Quimper, Venice and Palma de Mallorca.The new 98-seat Embraer 190 aircraft will arrive in May, bringing the total British Airways fleet based at London City to 25 aircraft.Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager commercial and customer at London City, commented, “The addition of the extra aircraft means we are able to meet the demands of our customers at London City who want more flights and a great schedule to some of their favourite holiday destinations. It also means we can create up to 30 permanent jobs at the airport.”
