National flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines has firmed up a US$332 million order for 10 new Q400 turboprops with Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, with purchase options for a further five.

The airline already operates a fleet of 19 Q400s and had five more on order prior to this latest announcement, it’s fifth reorder for the aircraft type.

“The Bombardier turboprops continue to deliver unmatched performance to our operators, and we are proud that the flag carrier of Ethiopia is once again recognising its tremendous value by increasing its fleet of Q400 aircraft,” said Fred Cromer, president, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The market trend for high-performing and larger turboprops is intensifying, and this fifth reorder is a great example of the Q400 turboprop success story and the value it creates for clients around the world.”

The latest order will see the new aircraft being delivered starting in the second quarter of 2019 and brings the Canadian manufacturer’s number of outstanding Q400 orders up to 58, encouragingly well ahead of the equivalent figure last year of just over 20.
