December and full 2013 operational results announced by Virgin America

Virgin America has reported its preliminary operational results for December and the full year 2013.

The airlines December revenue passenger miles (RPMs) rose by 7.1% to 858,035,000 from 801,501,000 in December 2012. Available seat miles (ASMs) were 0.8% lower than in the same month in 2012 at 1,048,301,000 compared with 1,056,851,000.

The load factor in December 2013 was 81.9%, up 6.1 percentage points from 75.8 in the previous December. The rounded number of passengers carried rose by 10.7% to 561,000 from 506,000 in December 2012.

The full-year RPMs in 2013 numbered 9,814,103,000 compared with 9,911,821,000 in 2012, a 1.0% decrease. ASMs were cut by 2.2% to 12,243,164,000 from the previous year’s 12,514,010,000.

The load factor went up by 1 pp to 80.2% in 2013 from 79.2% in 2012. The number of passengers carried also rose – by 1.8% – for the respective periods, to 6,329,000 from 6,219,00.
