Belle Air, Albania's main airline, has begun bankruptcy proceedings and suspended operations, with the company believed to owe the authorities in Albania €4.8 million in taxes.
According to a company statement, Belle Air’s bank accounts in Albania have been frozen. Meanwhile the company is working with other airlines to enable stranded passengers to find tickets elsewhere.
Belle Air operates an alliance with Darwin Airline and Belle Air Europe. The fate of the latter is not known at present.
