Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen and Asiana Airlines have signed a five-year agreement for technical support on V2500 engine thrust reversers.

Under the terms of the deal, Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen will support the South Korean airline in developing its in-house capabilities for the thrust reverser and other related components by providing technical training, tools and equipment as well as on-site support.

The aim is to establish a flexible and mutually beneficial co-operation based on the respective expertise and needs of both companies and to deepen their relationships. Asiana Airlines will take a significant step towards building its own repair capabilities instead of outsourcing the services, said LT Shenzhen.

“This joint approach allows us to build innovative repair services that cover more than the V2500 thrust reverser, with benefits such as increased aircraft availability and a close relationship with a world-class MRO service provider,” said a spokesperson on behalf of Chang Young-il, executive vice-president for maintenance and engineering at Asiana.

“The MRO co-operation between us and Asiana Airlines has been in place for more than 25 years,” added Gerald Steinhoff, senior vice-president for corporate sales, Asia Pacific, at Lufthansa Technik. “We will offer our customer full availability and fast access to capability development.”

Asiana Airlines was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Seoul. It flies to 64 destinations in 22 countries with its fleet of 84 aircraft.
