American Airlines announces regional traffic data for December

American Airlines Group has reported December 2013 and full-year traffic results for its regional operations including wholly owned subsidiaries and operating results from capacity purchase carriers flying under American Airlines and US Airways codes.

Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in December totalled 889,280,000 compared with 830,101,000 in December 2012, a 7.1% increase. Available seat miles (ASMs) grew by just 1.0% to 1,126,494,000 from 1,115,195,000 for the respective periods.

The December load factor thus rose by 4.5 percentage points to 78.9% from 74.4% the previous December. The carriers transported 1,804,011 passengers in December 2013 compared with 1,732,897 in December 2012, an increase of 4.1%.

For the whole of 2013, the partner/subsidiary airlines generated 10,464,675,000 RPMs, which was 2.5% more than the 10,213,998,000 in 2012. ASMs in 2013 totalled 13,840,611,000 compared with 13,595,449,000 in 2013, an increase of 1.8%

The load factor increased by 0.5 pp in 2013 to 75.6% from 75.1% in 2012. The number of passengers carried in 2013 was 21,733,693, which was 1.1% fewer than the 21,488,120 carried in 2012.
