AirTran announces March and 1Q10 traffic figures

AirTran Airways has reported traffic for the month of March 2010 and the first quarter of the calendar year.

In March 2010, the airline achieved 1,738,325,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs), a 9.6% increase over March 2009’s 1,586,579,000. Available seat miles (ASMs) also rose – by 5.5% – to 2,074,997,000 from 1,966,714,000.

The load factor for the month was 83.8%, 3.1 percentage points up on March 2009’s 80.7%. Passengers carried totalled 2,182,851 during the month compared with 2,050,161, a 6.5% increase.

In the first quarter of 2010, RPMs reached 4,390,801,000, up 7.5% on 1Q09’s figure of 4,086,181,000. ASMs were also increased, by 6.1%, to 5,684,460,000 from 5,358,382,000 in 1Q09.

The quarterly load factor went up marginally (0.9 pp) to 77.2% for 1Q10 from 76.3% in the same period last year. Total passenger numbers for the quarter were up by 3.4% though, at 5,526,408 compared with 1Q09’s 5,344,683.
