AirTran Airways announces December and 2010 year-end traffic

AirTran Airways has reported December and full-year 2010 traffic including all-time annual records for available seat miles, load factor and passengers carried.

For December, the airline’s revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased by 2.7% to 1,576,045,000 from 1,534,077,000 in December 2009. Available seat miles (ASMs) rose by 1.1% to 1,996,461,000 from 1,975,465,000 for the respective periods.

The load factor for the month was 78.9%, compared with 77.7% in December 2009, a 1.2 percentage point increase. Passengers carried totalled 2,008,346, 1.5% more than the 1,978,508 carried in December 2009.

For 2010, AirTran’s RPMs increased by 5.3% to 19,577,674,000 from the 18,588,036,000 recorded in 2009. ASMs meanwhile rose by 3.3% to 24,062,434,000 from 2009’s figure of 23,294,117,000.

The airline’s load factor climbed by 1.6 pp to 81.4% from 79.8% in 2009, while the number of passengers carried totalled 24,721,226 compared with 23,997,810 in 2009, an increase of 3.0%.
