AirAsia has celebrated its 10th anniversary with a variety of activities organised by the airline for the public to commemorate the special occasion.
The airline in its present guise started in 2001, with its first route from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. To commemorate that first service between Peninsular and East Malaysia, AirAsia chairman, Dato’ Aziz Bakar was present to greet and thank all guests on the flight from Kota Kinabalu.
AirAsia Group CEO, Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes commented, “Today is a very special day, where we celebrate our 10th anniversary. We would like to dedicate this special day to our guests, and everyone who have been supporting us since day one. It has been a really eventful journey. We’ve been through various challenges – bird flu, SARS, tsunamis, earthquakes, 9/11, floods, oil price credit crisis, civil unrest – and prevailed.
“We worked hard over the past 10 years to take AirAsia to celestial heights. With passion, creativity and commitment, we’ve achieved our dreams which others deemed impossible. Where others were skeptical, we believed. And after 10 years since our inception, we remain as the popular choice among travellers, and we will continue to provide the best for many years to come,” he added.
AirAsia grew from two aircraft and three destinations in December 2001 to more than 80 destinations across 24 countries and 107 aircraft group-wide today.
