India’s media is reporting that the LCC SpiceJet will be launching 12 new domestic routes in October. These latest additions will be serviced by the airline’s Boeing 737-800, according to company sources.

According to Indian news site ZeeBusiness, SpiceJet will begin the 12 new routes on October 12. Each will have a daily service and represent a significant expansion of their domestic network. In April, the airline announced 142 new flights, which included 78 that connected major cities to Mumbai. There will also be 30 flights to and from other major Indian cities to Delhi and 12 between Mumbai and Delhi.

As well as the 12 new domestic routes, SpiceJet will also introduce a daily non-stop service between the cities of Delhi and Aurangabad from early October.

The airline recently published its financial results for the 2nd quarter of 2019. SpiceJet’s passenger fares increased by 11% in the quarter, but the additional aircraft meant that the airline was able to increase its seat capacity by 31%. SpiceJet boasted the best passenger load factor among all of the country’s airlines in the same quarter.

Despite the success, the airline is one of the victims of the 737 MAX grounding, with 13 delivered and has 193 on order. Chairman Ajay Singh, stated:

“The results would have been vastly better but for the painfl grounding of the MAX aircraft. We look forward to their swift return to service in the near future…”
