Panasonic Avionics has signed an MoU with IMG Worldwide division IMG Media to offer live content from the UK’s Barclays Premier League through its eXTV solution.
Final terms are still being negotiated, Panasonic says, but the MoU allows both parties to work on finalising a licensing and distribution agreement that will add the live Premier League content as a premium channel option through Panasonic’s global, live in-flight television service.
“We are very excited by the prospects of being the first IFEC solution provider to deliver live, uninterrupted, sports programming to passengers at 35,000 feet,” says Panasonic CEO Paul Margis. "Football is the world’s most popular sport, and offering Premier League content to passengers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, will be yet another way in which Panasonic can help airlines enhance the power of their brand and maximise passenger satisfaction and loyalty.”
Panasonic’s eXTV television network will use the company’s eXConnect in-flight Ku-band communications service, including the same Ku antenna and onboard components, to deliver high-quality television programming to passengers during their flight. It will provide live, uninterrupted content to aircraft flying all over the world, even over oceans. The service will offer several core channels as well as regional channels.
Pending the completion of the licensing and distribution agreement, Panasonic’s airborne television service would provide airline passengers with access to all 380 Barclays Premier League matches. They would also be able to watch live pre and post game match analysis, live daily news bulletins, exclusive interviews and classic matches.
