Turkish Airlines set to offer Live TV and Wi-Fi connectivity

In a claim to be the first airline to offer live in-flight television on Trans-Atlantic flights, Turkish Airlines has selected the PLANET IFE platform from Panasonic Avionics Corporation.Following full testing and certification, Turkish Airlines will also provide passengers with access to internet connectivity through Panasonic’s Global Communication Suite (GCS) system.Live TV on intercontinental flights will feature a variety of programming including uninterrupted access to BBC World, BBC Arabic and Euronews with sport channels to be added later. Seats are also equipped with in-seat power for charging of mobile devices as well as allowing passengers to access the internet continuously on such devices as Notebooks, iPads and Tablets.With the PLANET IFE system travellers will have access to live text news and Miles & Smiles members will be able to view their account information enroute. Those wishing to join the programme will be able to do so online and passengers will be able to provide feedback on their in-flight experience by using a Customer Services link.Turkish Airlines will receive the first B777-300ER equipped with the GCS system today and plans to equip the system on a further 11 B777-300ER and 10 A330-300 aircraft in the near future.
