Start-up carrier STARLUX Airlines has unveiled its new cabin and uniform designs ahead of its intended launch in early 2020.
The Taiwan-based luxury carrier’s A321neos, the first of which is set to be delivered at the end of October, will feature seating designed by BMW’s Designworks Studio in both economy and business class.
In economy class, the seating will be in bright, natural colours with leather headrests, and will feature ultra-thin seatbacks which the airline said are engineered to increase leg room. Seats will also be equipped with an entertainment system with a 10.1-inch 720p screen, USB ports and an earphone port.
Free Wi-Fi with basic access is also being provided to passengers.
Business class is designed with dark colours, which the airline said are elegant and “evoke the majesty of the galaxy” with cushions and privacy dividers in a classic dark grey and rose gold and BMW’s exclusive A72 Cashmere Silver colour adding a “futuristic, hi-tech” touch to the back shells.
The seats are the first narrow-body airliner seats in Taiwan that can transform into an 82-inch fully flat bed. Each passenger has their own 15.6-inch 1080p in-flight entertainment system screen and the seat control panel is situated beside the headrest so passengers can easily reach the buttons.
As part of its aims to provide a relaxing and memorable experience, the airline has even developed an exclusive fragrance ‘Home in the Air’, produced with perfume manufacturer P.SEVEN.
“Smells can be an indelible part of our memories. A certain aroma can remind you of a specific place and time. I tried to develop a fragrance that could evoke the pleasant feeling of flying with STARLUX,” commented Pan, founder of P. SEVEN. STARLUX employees took part in the process, choosing which of multiple formulations developed would become the airline’s signature fragrance.
The fragrance, which combines notes of wood and leather with iris and violets, will not just be onboard but will be encountered at ticket counters and in the airline’s lounges. It will also be featured in the lotion and hand wash dispensed in economy class and the hot towels used to welcome business class passengers on boarding.
The airline’s uniforms for cabin and ground crew have been designed by Taiwan fashion designer Sean Yin, who wanted to combine a classic airline look with modern touches for “chic but practical fashions.”
The collection combines fashion elements from the 40s and 50s, with elegant and “space-age accents” such as gold and silver tones. STARLUX employees also contributed to the design of the new uniforms with suggestions.
The uniform also features functional innovations or modifications to the traditional attire for a simple and practical uniform, such as standing-collar shirts without neckties. For front line staff, breathable mesh fabrics are spliced into strategic sections of the uniforms for comfort. Badges reading ‘Safety is our attitude’ will be displayed on the uniforms of pilots, engineering and maintenance staff as well as ground handling staff.
