Royal Jordanian has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is equipped with the Thales TopSeries AVANT in-flight entertainment (IFE) system.
The airline is the launch customer for AVANT on the Boeing 787 aircraft. The system features wide touch screen monitors between 9 and 23” that support high definition video, whilst being 30% lighter in weight than the previous TopSeries solution.
Royal Jordanian’s 787 Dreamliner fleet will also use Thales’ TopConnect cabin communications network, integrating OnAir as the communications service provider. TopConnect supports swift broadband capabilities for Global System for Mobile (GSM), in-flight Wi-Fi and integrated IFE applications.
The 787 Dreamliner has many other features that aim to improve the passenger experience, including LED mood lighting, lower cabin altitude and enhanced ventilation systems.
“Introducing the B787 to the fleet is a major part of the RJ fleet modernization. They will significantly enable RJ to broaden its long-haul network; this has led RJ to invest in the entertainment services offered to passengers on board,” remarked Royal Jordanian CEO Amer Hadidi. “Through our proud partnership with Thales, our passengers will experience an advanced IFE system along with superior comfort as they fly with Royal Jordanian.”
Royal Jordanian is only the second airline in the Middle East to operate the B787 Dreamliner. The airline will receive four more of the aircraft before the end of 2014 which will gradually replace its Airbus A340s and A330s.
