Rockwell Collins acquires Pacific Avionics

Rockwell Collins has acquired Singapore-based Pacific Avionics, claiming that once the company’s wireless cabin intranet and in-flight connectivity platform is integrated into Rockwell Collins’ portfolio, it will enable video streaming to more than 250 passengers simultaneously.Pacific Avionics specialises in technologies used for wireless information distribution, including in-flight entertainment and connectivity. Rockwell Collins also suggests that Pacific Avionics’ flexible architecture can support a wide array of apps and services and will mean wireless speeds onboard the aircraft.“This acquisition builds on our overall information management strategy by enabling wireless distribution of digital information aboard the aircraft,” said Kelly Ortberg, Rockwell Collins’ president and CEO.“These enhanced capabilities are a good example of how we’re further expanding our cabin offerings beyond entertainment into new onboard applications and services to create a unique travel experience for airline passengers,” continued Kent Statler, EVP and COO commercial systems, Rockwell Collins.
