Inmarsat has opened a new office in Tokyo, Japan, to respond to the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region to its business.
Gerbrand Schalkwijk, Inmarsat’s maritime chief sales officer, remarked, “We are very excited about the new Inmarsat Tokyo office. Asia-Pacific is a key region across all our business sectors, including maritime, aviation, government and enterprise and we look forward to forging even closer strategic ties with our partners, equipment manufacturers and end users.”
The official opening, attended by Inmarsat partners and customers, included a traditional Kagami Biraki sake ceremony – the breaking of a cask of sake with a wooden mallet before being shared amongst the guests (pictured). The ceremony is said to bring blessings of health, prosperity and happiness to all present.
