The Legacy 500 is Embraer’s new mid-sized business jet kitted out with many of Honeywell’s latest products, including the company’s cabin management system (CMS) ‘Ovation Select’.
So what is it about the Ovation Select system that’s so new and exciting? Honeywell reports that the product uses SwiftBroadband to enable maximum in-flight productivity: passengers can access their emails over the internet and host video conferences or make phone calls. For entertainment, they can hook up their iPod, listen to 170 music channels courtesy of XM Radio or watch live satellite TV.
Using a single box AVOD server, Ovation Select can store up to 1.5 terabytes of audio and video, which is presented on a customised unique graphical user interface.
“The all-digital Ovation Select CMS integrates with passengers’ personal devices as well, enabling them to control a wide range of systems such as cabin lighting, window blinds and entertainment from the comfort of their seat,” says Bill Rowell, senior technical sales manager for Ovation Select at Honeywell Aerospace.
The Legacy 500 also includes Honeywell’s satcom system. Rowell explains it’s the “Ovation Select and satcom systems together that ensure business jet passengers get the same experience at 41,000ft that they would in their front room or office.”
With six Legacy 500’s being produced this year and no doubt more into 2015, we’ll soon get to see what the aircraft has in store…
