ECR Retail Systems has developed and launched GoFree, a new compact contactless Mobile Point of Sale (MPOS) device for the airline industry.

In what ECR have called the ‘first compact handheld terminal of its kind’, the GoFree has been designed specifically for the airline sector and with inbuilt Miura PED.

Incorporating the latest ECR AirPoS technology, the GoFree uses customer data to enhance the passenger and crew experience, and is designed to work as part of a full end-to-end airline system.

With the GoFree device, using its AirPoS software, airline crew can now take contactless payments anywhere in the world and while offline. All ECR transactions are settled in the local client’s currency and clients are protected against chargebacks.

Designed to help airlines maximise ancillary revenues, the technology offers fast seat upgrades, enabling crew and passengers the ability to view and manage availability and make payments simply.

AirPoS also integrates with in-flight entertainment systems to take payments for at-seat services and ordering.

“With this new payment device, the GoFree, airline passengers feel valued and recognised for their loyalty,” said Simon Pont, CEO, ECR Retail Systems. “Airlines can now offer the most up-to-date technology and provide crews with a small and discreet yet purpose-designed device with a clear display, incorporating ECR’s intuitive AirPoS software. We are confident that this new lightweight device, especially with the new seat-upgrade functionality, e-receipt option, and the ability to take contactless payments offline, will add immense value to the passenger and crew experience, and help further improve airline revenue streams.”

The GoFree is the most compact device ECR provides, with the same full Windows 10 capability of the ECRGo2 launched last year.

The new GoFree devices can communicate seamlessly with the Go2’s inbuilt printer, or with a small, standalone receipt printer for any operations requiring it and fully support e-receipts.

GoFree are designed with a lighter weight and a slimline shell, making the devices small enough to be held by crew and weigh considerably less than typical EPOS terminals, ECR say.

ECR say the new terminals will enable airlines to enhance the passenger experience and add value to their offers at all touchpoints.

The device carries all PCI and EMV certification and is ready-to-deploy.
