Rockwell Collins is set to introduce in early 2012 the Digital Media Reproducer in an aim to replace tape-based IFE systems.
The Digital Media Reproducer is a form-fit-function, digital head-end replacement for video tape reproducers (VTRs). The plug-and-play unit offers a solution for modernising the cabin IFE without overhauling the entire system. It addresses the need for airlines to move to a more reliable, higher-quality digital platform while mitigating decreasing hi-8 cassette availability.
Rockwell Collins claims that the Digital Media Reproducer is the ideal solution for 1,600 in-service, first-generation PAVES IFE systems.
