Inmarsat expects to announce a new GX Aviation customer in the near future, with “a couple more in the pipeline”, Inmarsat vice-president Aviation Asia-Pacific Bill Peltola told Inflight.
Air China recently confirmed it will trial Inmarsat’s Ka-band GX Aviation on an Airbus A330 next year. The GX programme is on schedule and testing is going well after the launch of the first satellite last December, said Peltola. Two more satellites will be launched by year-end, with full aviation service available in the first half of 2015.
The Asia-Pacific region lends itself well to a service like GX due to the percentage of long-haul flights, says Peltola.Emma Kelly, Inflight / Inflight-Online.comSydney
