Lufthansa Systems has unveiled a lighter, easier to use portable version of its in-flight entertainment (IFE) solution, BoardConnect.
Speaking to Inflight at APEX EXPO, Norbert Müller, senior vice president, Board Connect highlighted the portable version’s advantages over the conventional BoardConnect solution.
A ‘robust’ and ‘multifunctional’ system, BoardConnect Portable has been designed for airlines as a cost effective solution to the high capital outlay of permanently installed hardware. Italy’s Air Dolomiti will be the launch customer.
Weighing less than 1.5kg, BoardConnect Portable’s Mobile Streaming Unit (MSU) can supply up to 50 passengers with streamed content, with two to three providing sufficient coverage on narrow-body aircraft for short- and medium-haul flights. The MSUs also qualify as non-permanently installed equipment removing the need for certification. An integrated modem allows rapid wireless updates of content while the aircraft is on the ground.tAlex Preston, editor, Inflight /Inflight-Online.comtAPEX EXPO, Portland, Oregon
