AIX Americas 2012: STG showcases new emergency power supply

STG Aerospace is demonstrating its new UltraPak emergency power supply unit, which is designed as a direct replacement for existing NiCd-based systems for emergency lighting. It uses new ultracapacitors as its internal power source, which store power until needed. In the event of an emergency the module will deliver sufficient charge for 15 minutes of emergency lighting; and, as soon as aircraft power is restored, will automatically replenish itself in as little as 30 minutes with no engineering intervention and without being removed from the aircraft.UltraPak has been specifically developed to reduce the costs associated with emergency lighting batteries and remove the complications of conventional rechargeable battery systems. The system has also been designed to be a direct swap with existing power supply units.UltraPak is currently going through a certification process for the Dash-8, Q-400, Embraer 170/190 and BAE 146 aircraft. STG expects certification in Q1 2013.Steve Nichols, Inflight / Inflight-Online.comSeattle, USA
