Low-fare carrier Wizz Air has placed the largest seat order in its history with Italy’s Geven for the supplier’s new-generation Essenza economy class seat for its incoming fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

The Hungarian airline has 110 of the single-aisle aircraft due to be delivered by Airbus to add to its existing fleet of 93 aircraft. The seat order is also the largest ever awarded to Geven.

Wizz Air and Geven confirmed the deal at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Geven has been supplying seats to Wizz since its first Airbus narrow-body asset acquisitions in 2007.

“Lower fares are what allows us to grow. This new order helps to allow us to double our size in the next five years,” said Wizz’s chief marketing officer, Johan Eidhagen, at AIX. “When we see these seats in cobalt blue, it will look even better.”

The Essenza seats will be installed starting in January 2019 in the A321/A320neo cabins with a configuration of 239 passengers on the A321s and 186 passengers on the A320s, in a single economy class layout.

The seats come in two main versions, one basic and pre-reclined for the most high-density configurations, and one with up to six inches of recline for longer-haul and mixed-class cabins, with integration capability for all the latest IFE systems. A fully dressed Essenza seat weighs 7.9 kg.
