ViaSat’s ‘Exede in the Air’ in-flight connectivity (IFC) solution became one of 2015’s prestigious Crystal Cabin Award winners this week at an official awards ceremony which took place as part the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
Winning the Passenger Comfort Systems category, Exede In The Air delivers a satellite-powered 12Mbps of internet connection to every seat, allowing passengers to stream and shop online up to eight times faster than average, according to ViaSat. Using its high-capacity Ka-band satellite service, Exede In the Air aims to transform the passenger IFE experience.
“In-flight Wi-Fi connectivity is an influencing factor in how passengers choose their airline carrier,” said Don Buchman, vice president and general manager, commercial mobility business, ViaSat (pictured right). “To be competitive, airlines must go beyond delivering good Wi-Fi service to delivering a best-in-class Wi-Fi strategy to differentiate their core business and increase passenger engagement and loyalty. With more than 300 commercial aircraft in service, engagement levels four times the historical rate and the highest capacity satellite technology we are proud to be moving the industry forward and be recognised with a 2015 Crystal Cabin Award.”
This was the ninth year of the prestigious industry event, held at the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg and had attracted 68 submissions from 18 countries. “Selecting the Crystal Cabin Award winners was a tough decision this year, as all finalists were of very high quality,” said Melissa Raudebaugh, general manager, aircraft experience. “They ranged from renowned manufacturers to inspiring university concepts, which we will hopefully see flying soon.”
