Flights from Aircalin’s base at La Tontouta International Airport in Nouméa will now feature the Lufthansa Systems BoardConnect in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) solution.
BoardConnect is available on Aircalin’s new Airbus A320, which operates services to Oceania, New Zealand and Australia. The system allows passengers to stream a variety of IFE and ‘infotainment’ through their personal iOS, Android and Windows devices, including Windows 8 operating systems.
“Good in-flight entertainment, extensive infotainment and interaction opportunities during a flight are becoming increasingly important to passengers and are among the criteria for choosing a certain airline,” remarked Norbert Müller, senior VP of BoardConnect at Lufthansa Systems. “This makes us all the more delighted to work with Aircalin in order to offer these options to its passengers with BoardConnect.”
The airline installed a few access points in the cabin of the A320 using a regular WLAN to enable Lufthansa System’s in-flight Wi-Fi. The BoardConnect solution is lightweight and can be installed during regular maintenance checks, meaning Aircalin won’t have to deal with extensive aircraft downtime.
CEO of Aircalin Didier Tappero said, “We are proud to bring such brand new technology to our passengers on our short and medium-haul routes.”
