Air China’s fleet of 22 Boeing 737s, scheduled for delivery between 2015 and 2016, are to be equipped with the Thales TopFlight SATCOM satellite communications solution, the first ARINC 781 SATCOM system to be certified on Boeing aircraft.
“This selection is a result of a reliable product and the Thales quality of support,” said Air China.
The Thales TopFlight SATCOM system offers voice and data services for both the cockpit and the cabin. Its B737 configuration will provide two voice channels and one data channel, enabling ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System), a digital datalink system for transmission of short messages between aircraft and ground stations via air-band radio or satellite, and FANS (Future Air Navigation Systems), an avionics system which provides direct data link communications between pilots and traffic controllers.
The communications solution can also be configured to deliver Swiftbroadband to the cockpit, which Thales hope will future proof the aircraft’s connectivity in preparation for the industry’s increasing data requirements.
