SmartSky Networks has announced Kontron as a technology connectivity partner for the beta-launch later of its SmartSky 4G LTE-based in-flight wireless network this year.
SmartSky 4G will accesses 60MHz of spectrum and claims it will offer over ten times the speed and capacity of current networks.
Kontron’s hardware technology will give customers a greater choice of connection to their preferred cabin W-Fi access point (CWAP). The company already have installations on many business jets, A330 and B767 wide-body aircraft.
“The Kontron CWAP’s enterprise routing and Wi-Fi access point functionality aligns perfectly with SmartSky’s open ecosystem. Our partnership with Kontron will enable SmartSky to offer our customers an affordable, yet highly capable, next-generation CWAP option,” said Blane Rockafellow, SmartSky Networks’ VP product development.
