airberlin upgrades IFE and seats on A330s

News : airberlin upgrades IFE and seats on A330s January 13, 2012
airberlin has upgraded the first of its long-haul fleet of A330-200s with a new in-flight entertainment (IFE) system and seating in both Business and Economy Class.

The German carrier’s new on-demand audio-video IFE system provides an individualised entertainment programme. Passengers can access a wide selection of box office hits, TV serials, games, music albums or audio books. The 8.9 inch high-resolution monitor uses the latest LED technology and is operated via a touchscreen. A USB port located on the monitor provides the ability to operate small electronic devices, such as an iPhone or Blackberry.

In Business Class, the new fully-automatic seats recline to 170 degrees, which allows it to be transformed into a comfortable reclining seat 181 cm long and 50 cm wide. In addition, each seat has a connection for a laptop or other electronic device. Following the upgrade, the Business Class cabin has a total of 20 seats.

In Economy Class, new light-weight seats are being fitted. The use of slimmer back rests guarantees maximum leg room and increases the so-called “living space”. After the upgrade, the Economy Class cabin has 279 seats in total.

airberlin aims to complete upgrades on all its long-haul aircraft by the start of Summer 2012.
