New Frontier services from Kansas City and Washington DC
October 14, 2011Frontier Airlines is to introduce nonstop seasonal service between Kansas City (MCI) and Orlando (MCO) and add new nonstop service from both Grand Rapids, MI (GRR) and Madison, WI (MSN) to Washington Reagan National (DCA).
The Kansas City–Orlando service begins on 5 January 2012 and will operate until 15 April. Initially, the service will operate four days per week, increasing to six days per week from 23 February 2012. The service will utilise 99-seat Embraer 190s.
“We’re pleased to expand our low-fare, nonstop service from Kansas City to include new service to Orlando,” said Daniel Shurz, vice-president of strategy and planning for Frontier. “With the addition of Orlando, Frontier will serve 19 destinations nonstop from Kansas City.” Shurz added that due to strong demand, Frontier’s recently announced Kansas City–Las Vegas nonstop service – set to begin on 1 November 2011 – will have a capacity upgrade from the E-190 aircraft to a 138-seat Airbus A319.
For the new services from Grand Rapids and Madison to Washington, the former route takes off on 4 January 2012 and on the latter on 5 January 2012. Service will be provided on A319s.
The carrier also is implementing route adjustments in several markets during the first quarter of 2012. These include discontinuation of Milwaukee (MKE)–Pittsburgh (PIT) from 4 January; seasonal suspension of nonstop Milwaukee–Boston (BOS) service for the first quarter of 2012; and other frequency and day-of-week adjustments.
“In these times of continuing high fuel prices, we’re continuing to fine-tune our schedules to match capacity to demand in what is historically the weakest travel quarter of the year,” Shurz explained. “These adjustments, along with other recent schedule changes, are part of Frontier’s ongoing efforts to return the airline to sustained profitability.”
